The Saab 9-4X crossover.

Introduced on Wednesday: 2011 Saab 9-4X

What is it? Saab’s first crossover, which was built on the Cadillac SRX platform.

What makes it tick? There are two V-6 engines available, both hooked to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The naturally aspirated 3-liter makes 265 horsepower, with its combined city/highway fuel economy expected to be around 20 miles per gallon. The 2.8-liter turbo makes 300 horsepower and has an estimated 18 m.p.g.

How much, how soon? On sale in May. Because the 9-4X is aimed to compete with the BMW X5 and Audi Q5, its pricing will reflect that, starting under $40,000.

How’s it look? It’s a 9-3X with a glandular disorder.
