NextGen is the transformation of our airspace system from ground-based radar to a satellite-based system. This transition will enhance the safety of our system and improve efficiency of flight. NextGen will also reduce aviation’s environmental footprint by helping to reduce fuel burn and carbon emissions.

Performance Based Navigation Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs) will help accelerate the benefits of NextGen. The FAA recognizes the increasing demand for these procedures and in response is committing to streamline all processes used to request, prioritize, develop, and implement IFPs. Based on recommendations made by an RTCA task force, a Nav Lean program will produce safe, efficient Instrument Flight Procedures in the shortest time possible.
