Jerome D'Ambrosio hopes he did enough during this week's Young Driver to land a Virgin Racing seat for next season.

D'Ambrosio, who contested the Friday practice sessions in Singapore, Japan, Korea and Brazil with Virgin as part of an 'evaluation' process, also took part in Tuesday's Young Driver test in Abu Dhabi with the team.

The GP2 driver finished near the bottom of the timesheets, almost five seconds behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

However, for Wednesday's running he switched to Renault and put in a challenge for the P1 slot, eventually finishing in second place, seven-tenths off the pace.

D'Ambrosio is hoping he did enough during the two-day outing put his name forward for a Virgin race-seat.

"There are many things going on, but what is important for me is to do the job in the car," he told Autosport. "After that, time will tell."

And even though his second day's work was with Renault, D'Ambrosio says it gave Virgin another opportunity to see how he performs.

"I don't know about the end result, time and everything," he said.

"It's good to be in that position because the times were pretty good, but the most important thing for me was to satisfy the team to see how I worked, the speed and everything.

"They were pretty happy, so that's good. Hopefully I'll be able to transform this into a race seat in 2011."
