GreenBkk Formula 1 | Sutil not intending to replace Schumacher

Sutil not intending to replace Schumacher

Adrian Sutil believes it is 'too early' to drive for Mercedes

Adrian Sutil has admitted he would love to drive for Mercedes in the future, but he has no intention to replace Michael Schumacher for the start of next season.

Seven-time world champion Schumacher has failed to live up to expectation during his comeback year, falling into the shadows behind team-mate Nico Rosberg, whom he trails by 56 points. The German's struggles have sparked speculation that he may call an early end to his three-year contract.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Sutil may step in to replace Schumacher after recording nine points finishes for Force India this season, but he has responded by insisting he fully expects his more illustrious counterpart to remain in the cockpit.

"Michael is going to stay there for another year at least, and I think he has a three-year contract, so that is how it is," Sutil was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

"Of course it would be great to drive for Mercedes in the future, but I think now is just too early, and they are just rumours.

"People expect him to be there where he ended three years ago, but that's not how Formula One is. It has changed and it is never easy to come back after three years. It's not a winning car at the moment. You can make a reference to his team-mate [Nico Rosberg]. He's close and is getting better, so I suppose you could say it's probably not been a bad comeback."

Commenting further on his own future, Sutil stated: "I just want to make sure to do the right thing, but I can't say where I am going to be [next season]. I was planning to make a decision four weeks ago, but it is difficult."
