Vergne handed Abu Dhabi test by Toro Rosso
2010 British International Formula Three champion Jean-Eric Vergne will get behind the wheel of Toro Rosso’s STR5 at next week’s young driver test in Abu Dhabi. It will be the first proper taste of Formula One power for Vergne, who is a product of Red Bull’s Young Driver programme.
“I am delighted to be given this fantastic opportunity and would like to thank Red Bull and Scuderia Toro Rosso,” said the 20 year-old Frenchman. “To date, my only experience behind the wheel of a Formula One car has been driving the Red Bull Racing car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
“Apart from that, I have spent a lot of time in their simulator, providing feedback during the Grand Prix weekends. I am looking forward to these two days in Abu Dhabi and hope there will be other opportunities to drive an F1 car in the future.”
Vergne made the step up from karts to single-seaters in 2007 and last year finished runner-up in the European Formula Renault 2.0 series. This season he has taken 13 wins, 20 pole positions and 14 fastest laps en route to his British F3 crown.
