(Reuters) - Online spending during the holiday season is expected to increase by 9 percent over last year, analytics firm comScore said on Tuesday.
In October, the firm said it expected an increase of 7 to 9 percent. At the time it cautioned that any negative change in the unemployment rate, price inflation or deterioration in the stock market would weigh on spending.

In November and December of 2009, U.S. online sales rose 4 percent.

The National Retail Federation has said it expects 2010 holiday retail sales, which exclude online sales, to rise by 2.3 percent this year to $447.1 billion, compared with a rise of 0.4 percent last year.

Online retailers such as Amazon.com as well as brick-and-mortar retailers like Wal-Mart Stores Inc view the Internet as a key focus of consumers, who research deals and buy online in order to avoid the hassle of going to stores.
