Massa pins hopes on new tyres
Felipe Massa hopes that the switch from Bridgestone tyres to Pirelli rubbers will help him to regain his form this year.
The Brazilian driver struggled to match Fernando Alonso last season and he finished more than 100 points behind his Ferrari team-mate in the Drivers' Championship.
Massa believes his problems last year were mostly down to his struggles with the Bridgestone tyres.
"[2010] was a bad year for me and I didn't have the car I wanted to have to drive, especially because of the tyres," he told O Estado de S.Paulo.
"The front tyres were very weak in comparison to the previous years, and for me driving style it was very difficult.
"I'm really looking forward to a nice year, a nice 2011, when I can drive the car I wanted to drive. We have so many changes in the rules that I hope we can build a good car as well."
Most drivers have already had a taste of the new Pirelli tyres after a test was held in late December, and Massa feels it will suit his driving style.
"The first run with the Pirelli tyres was positive and the grip of the front tyres was good," he said.
"It was positive to my driving style although we drove in a car that will be different as it was the 2010 car and not the one I will drive this year. That will be different because of KERS and the new rear wing, which I hope will work. We don't have the famous diffuser anymore but I hope we are on target with the car."
