Work underway in Texas


America's hopes of returning to the Formula One calendar in 2012 remain firmly on track after construction at the new venue in Texas finally got underway.

Chief organiser Tavo Hellmund has always maintained building work would start before 2011 and he got his wish when construction got underway on Thursday.

According to the Austin American Statesman, groundbreaking at the site commenced near the future Turn 11.

The 5.5km course, located in Austin's Wandering Creek area, was designed by architect Hermann Tilke, he who was also responsible for the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and the Korea International Circuit and will cost about $250m to build.
