Hin Rua Bai
Moo Koh Similan National Park, Phangnga
Perched on a hilltop overlooking the main beach of Similan Island, this natural sculpture, known as Hin Rua Bai (Sail Rock), is a symbol of Moo Ko Similan National Park. However, an even bigger draw of the marine park, which is made up of a group of islands and islets about 70 kilometres off the mainland, is its beautiful coral reefs which draw thousands of snorkellers and scuba divers to the park each year.
- How to get there
Boats to Moo Koh Similan NP leaves from Thap Lamu pier, which is five kilometres down a side road that splits off Highway 4 at Lam Kaen three-way intersection between Thai Muang and Takua Pa.
- Food and accommodation
The national park has bungalows for rent as well as camping grounds on the Similan Island. Food can also be arranged. For both, you need to contact the park well in advance.

- A few weeks ago we invited readers to send in their favourite travel photos so our artist , Napat Yothongyos, can choose and use it as a model for the painting to be featured in this final issue of the column. The original deal was that owner of the selected photo gets the painting as a reward.
However, it turned out that the artist decided not to use any of the entries and chose this one of Similan Island instead. Still he wishes to give away this painting to those who have participated.
So, if you're one of those who had sent in the photos, be quick. The painting, completed with a frame, will be sent to the first of you to email and claim the painting via pongpetm@bangkokpost.co.th.
Oh, and don't forget to state in the email your postal address!
