Renault has said that Robert Kubica's condition "remains positive" and his return to an intensive care unit is not a cause for concern.

Kubica underwent nine hours of surgery over the weekend and his condition was reported as stable on Sunday. Renault says his return to intensive care is a practical decision and that there have been no major setbacks.

"The latest update on Robert is that his condition remains positive," the team said. "He will stay in intensive care for the next couple of days to allow a complete check-up and to avoid another change of department before his final operation. His good general condition means that the final surgery is scheduled for Wednesday."

The final surgery is set to focus on his outer elbow after work on his shoulder, inner elbow and foot took place over the weekend.

Subsequent reports have suggested that quotes from a Polish TV network saying his condition had worsened were misleading.
