Felipe Massa is feeling "super confident" on the new Pirelli tyres ahead of the 2011 season.
Massa disliked last year's Bridgestone tyres, struggling to get the harder compounds up to temperature and found it hard to cope with the resulting understeer. But after three solid tests on the new Pirelli rubber, the Brazilian is confident he will be back on the pace this season.
"I turned the car upside down to see if the tyres really are working for me," he said told the O Estada de S.Paulo newspaper. "I am much more in control of the car and know what I can do with it."
Describing his problems of last year, he explained: "I couldn't get everything out of the car after trying everything. There was no way to be happy, and happiness is very important, especially with this sort of job. It was hard going to a race knowing what would happen. Now, everything changed after three laps with these new tyres."
Despite finishing 108 points adrift of Fernando Alonso last year, Massa says there is no reason why he cannot offer the Spaniard some stiffer competition in 2011.
"I had good results with [Michael] Schumacher in the team, great with Kimi [Raikkonen] and then a horrible year with Alonso," said Massa. "But it was horrible because the car didn't work for me."
