Abu Dhabi award for Academy winner Kaur

Egon Kaur's drive to victory in the inaugural FIA WRC Academy has earned the Estonian the prestigious Abu Dhabi Spirit of the Rally Award on Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

Kaur, 23, won the first event of the new-for-2011 young driver training class after Craig Breen and Alastair Fisher had both enjoyed stints at the front of the field in their identical Ford Fiesta R2s.

“This is an unbelievable start of the season,” said Kaur, who was one of 18 future rising stars competing in Portugal. “Winning the first WRC Academy rally is the highlight of my career and to be presented with this award is a true honour - the icing on the cake.”

The Abu Dhabi Spirit Of The Rally award has been created to recognise organisations or individuals demonstrating the same values that the capital of the United Arab Emirates stands for; respect, innovation, integrity and teamwork.

Raid Obeidi, the Team Abu Dhabi manager, handed Egon Kaur and co-driver Mait Laidvee the Abu Dhabi Spirit of the Rally Award.
