ALMS – A 458 Italia GT2 on the Long Beach podium
Maranello, 17 April – The 458 Italia GT2 entered by Risi Competizione made it onto the podium in third place in class, at the end of the Long Beach 2 Hour race, the second round of the American Le Mans Series, held at the charming Californian track, after crossing the line in seventh spot overall.
Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander had to fight their way through from the back of the grid after the misfortunes of qualifying, making a good job of managing the traffic and climbing up the order to finish behind the BMW M3 of winners Dirk Muellier-Joey Hand and the second placed Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 of Oliver Gavin-Jan Magnussen. The Houston based Ferrari team had Extreme Speed Motorsport to thank for providing a replacement rear wing for the one damaged in qualifying, as a spare was not able to be flown out from Italy in time. Less fortunate were the other two Ferraris entered by the generous team with the Ed Brown-Guy Cosmo 458 Italia GT2 finishing ninth, while the Scott Sharp-Johannes van Overbeek car had to retire 15 minutes from the end of the race, after going off the track.
The next round of the prestigious series takes place over the weekend of 9 July, at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut.
ALMS – Una 458 Italia GT2 sul podio di Long Beach
Maranello, 17 aprile – Al termine della due ore disputata a Long Beach, secondo appuntamento dell’American Le Mans Series entrato in scena nel fine settimana lungo le strade della suggestiva località californiana, la 458 Italia GT2 di Risi Competizione è salita sul terzo gradino del podio di categoria, finendo settima nella classifica assoluta.
Protagonisti di un duello iniziato dal fondo dello schieramento di partenza a causa di uno sfortunato turno di qualifica, Jaime Melo e Toni Vilander hanno saputo abilmente gestire il traffico ed i numerosi imprevisti generati dalla stretta conformazione del tracciato, riuscendo a risalire dalle retrovie per concludere alle spalle della BMW M3 dei vincitori Dirk Mueller - Joey Hand e della Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 di Oliver Gavin – Jan Magnussen. Alla scuderia Extreme Speed Motorsport il ringraziamento del team Ferrari di Houston per la sostituzione dell’alettone posteriore danneggiato in qualifica, per problemi di logistica non arrivato per tempo dall’Italia. Minor fortuna per le altre due Ferrari schierate dal generoso team: la 458 Italia GT2 di Ed Brown e Guy Cosmo ha concluso in nona posizione, mentre la vettura condotta da Scott Sharp e Johannes van Overbeek è stata costretta al ritiro a quindici minuti dal termine della corsa in seguito ad un’uscita di pista.
Il prossimo appuntamento con la prestigiosa serie è in programma nel weekend del 9 luglio presso il Lime Rock Park di Lakeville, nel Connecticut.
