FVA - Racers for a day
Maranello, 17 April – Today will no doubt be unforgettable for the five lucky winners of the Ferrari Virtual Academy competition. They were able to get their hands on a real Formula Abarth for a special test at the Fiorano circuit, with backing from Luca Baldisserri and the Ferrari Driver Academy engineers.
The youngsters were chosen as the best from a worldwide contest which saw them set the fastest time over virtual laps of Fiorano, Mugello and the Nurburgring. Over 20,000 contestants from 88 countries took part. The Ferrari Virtual Academy simulator is the first one produced on-line by the Maranello company in collaboration with Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro and it was launched last September on www.ferrarivirtualacademy.com.
The fun began on Friday when the gates of Ferrari were opened for two Italians, David Greco and Matteo Secchioni, from Spain Jon Tanko, the German Martin Kronke and from Portugal, Joao Nunes, who then underwent some psycho-attitudinal tests. On Saturday it was time for a training session on the simulator used by the Ferrari Driver Academy to train its actual drivers, before getting to the most exciting part, slipping behind the wheel of a Formula Abarth and experiencing what it is like to be a real racing driver, even if it was just for one day.
Jon Tanko set the fastest lap of the day (1.15.078) before telling us what it felt like at the end of the session: “I felt as though I almost knew the track because having driven it on the simulator, I could remember every single corner. Naturally, this experience has been indescribable and a unique experience. It’s just you and the car, with your heart beating like crazy, with the smell of the tyres and the noise of the engine in your ears. It was a dream come true.”
Under Baldisserri’s supervision, the five contestants were able to get the most out of this truly unique event. “Over the three days, we offered the guys a progressive programme which meant they could test themselves in absolute safety at the wheel of a Formula Abarth. It was also useful for us, to analyse the effect the Ferrari Driver Academy courses can have on non-professionals.”
Two of the Ferrari Driver Academy drivers were on hand as special observers: Raffaele Marciello and Brandon Maisano, who both have previous experience of Formula Abarth. They tutored the five competition winners, giving them valuable advice on how to drive the car.

Maranello, 17 aprile – La giornata di oggi resterà certamente impressa nella memoria dei cinque fortunati vincitori della competizione Ferrari Virtual Academy, che si sono alternati al volante di una vera Formula Abarth in uno speciale test sul circuito di Fiorano, grazie al supporto di Luca Baldisserri e dei tecnici della Ferrari Driver Academy.
I giovani sono stati selezionati per essersi distinti tra i migliori nel torneo su scala mondiale che ha visto impegnati oltre 20.000 appassionati provenienti da 88 paesi e per aver ottenuto i migliori tempi sui tracciati virtuali di Fiorano, Mugello e Nuerburgring del Ferrari Virtual Academy, il primo simulatore online realizzato dalla Casa di Maranello, in collaborazione con la Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro e lanciato lo scorso settembre sul sito www.ferrarivirtualacademy.com.
L’avventura è iniziata venerdì scorso, quando le porte della Ferrari si sono aperte per i due italiani David Greco e Matteo Vecchioni, per lo spagnolo Jon Tanko, per il tedesco Martin Kronke e il portoghese Joao Nunes che hanno effettuato alcuni test psicoattitudinali per poi passare, nella giornata di sabato, ad un allenamento con il simulatore utilizzato dalla Ferrari Driver Academy nella preparazione dei propri piloti, fino a vivere l’esperienza più entusiasmante che li ha visti oggi calarsi nell’abitacolo di una Formula Abarth e vivere l’emozione di essere dei veri piloti, anche se solo per un giorno.
Tra i protagonisti, Jon Tanko autore del miglior crono della giornata (1.15.078), ha raccontato le sue emozioni al termine della sessione che ha confermato l’ottimo risultato conquistato sulla versione virtuale dello stesso tracciato: “Mi è sembrato quasi di conoscere il circuito perché, dopo averlo provato sul Ferrari Virtual Academy ricordavo a memoria quasi ogni singola curva. Naturalmente vivere questa esperienza è stato qualcosa di indescrivibile, un’emozione unica. Sei solo tu e la macchina, con il cuore che batte a mille, l’odore delle gomme ed il rombo del motore nelle orecchie. E’ stato come vivere un sogno”.
La supervisione di Luca Baldisserri ha permesso ai cinque protagonisti di sfruttare al meglio questa esperienza, davvero unica: “Nelle tre giornate abbiamo offerto ai ragazzi un programma progressivo che ha permesso loro di misurarsi in assoluta sicurezza, al volante di una Formula Abarth. L’esperienza è stata utile anche dal nostro punto di vista, per analizzare l’impatto che i corsi della Ferrari Driver Academy possono avere su ragazzi non professionisti ”.
In veste di testimoni d’eccezione, anche i due piloti della Ferrari Driver Academy, Raffaele Marciello e Brandon Maisano che, avendo entrambi alle spalle un’esperienza nella Formula Abarth, hanno affiancato i cinque vincitori del concorso fornendo loro preziosi consigli su come condurre la vettura.
