Man, that's a cool-looking Aston...
The Zagato AM is based on the V12 Vantage.
The brawny rear end points to racing ambitions.
The car you see here has been developed by Aston Martin and Zagato to mark 50 years of collaboration between the two parties. The V12 Zagato made its debut at Lake Como, Italy, last weekend to gauge public demand for a possible road-going model, most likely in limited numbers.
The first Zagato AM was the DB4GT followed by the DB7, both of which were made in small numbers for customers wanting an Aston with some Italian styling flair.
But it looks like a racing car...
That's because the V12 Zagato will first be used as a race car in next month's 24-hour endurance racing in Nurburgring, Germany.
The particular Aston that is used for this Zagato is the V12 Vantage, explaining the familiar air vents in the bonnet to provide respiration for the 517hp 6.2-litre V12 engine.
But the rest of the car is bespoke like the rear diffuser, exhaust pipes, rollover cage and plastic windows. Expect these details to be replaced with more conventional components for the production model.
You mean it's confirmed for production?
According to European press reports, yes. Zagato's Aston would go on sale next year and it could cost over 30 million baht in Thailand after taxes. Expect numbers to be way less than 100 units.
The two-seat V12 Zagato would stand out, as said earlier, with its British/Italian styling DNA to guarantee its exclusivity over other front-engine, two-seat coupes like the Ferrari 599.
