150 Prancing Horse cars line out for start of the Ferrari Tribute to 1000 Miglia

Maranello, 12th May – A total of 150 teams entered in the Ferrari Tribute to 1000 Miglia will parade along Brescia’s Viale Venezia today to open the 2011 edition of the historic regularity event. At the wheels of 150 post-1957 Ferraris, the competitors will then retrace the Mille Miglia’s traditional route to Rome and back, crossing the finish-line in Brescia on the night of Saturday, May 14th.

The 1000 Miglia also passes through the Ferrari complex in Maranello once again this year. There, competitors take part in a special ability trial at the Fiorano circuit on the Saturday afternoon in homage to the Marque that won the classic race more often than any other.

All in all, 44 different models from 1958 to date were selected to participate in the Tribute by a special committee presided over by the Maranello marque’s deputy chairman Piero Ferrari. The teams will be competing in a number of categories in the regularity trial being held on the Mille Miglia route, depending on their age and model type.

The Tribute to 1000 Miglia cars and the rest of the vehicles taking part in this historic re-enactment will provide an unmissable spectacle for the tens of thousands of enthusiasts lining the route as they have throughout the race’s long history. However, the event can also be followed at www.ferrari.com which will provide a continual flow of exclusive updates, news, standings, and photographs and footage from the morning of the start onwards.
