FDA - Bianchi and Rigon in Istanbul for the start of GP2
Istanbul, 6 May - With experience gained in the Asian GP2 series and pre-season testing in Silverstone and Barcelona, the GP2 series gets underway today in Istanbul with the first round of the nine event championship, running alongside the Formula 1 World Championship. Among those entered in this the seventh year of the series is Ferrari Driver Academy student, Jules Bianchi, who has been on the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver books since November last year. In his second season in one of the two Lotus Art team cars, the young Frenchman set the fourth fastest time (1.44.697) in the first free practice session, right behind the Racing Engineering driver, Christian Vietoris (1.43.399,) Romain Grosjean (1.43.618) in the Dams and the Barwa Addax Team’s Giedo Van der Garde (1.43.992. Driving for the Italian Scuderia Coloni team is Davide Rigon, a colleague of Bianchi’s in working on car development for the Maranello Scuderia. The Italian returns to the category he last raced in back in 2009 and he set the eleventh fastest time in 1.45.601.
