GP2 – Bianchi on pole

Montmelo, Barcelona 20 May – Jules Bianchi’s Barcelona weekend got off to the best possible start when he took pole position at the Catalunya circuit for the second round of the GP2 series. The signs were there for the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster, who since November has been on the books at Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro to help with car development, as he was third fastest in this morning’s free practice prior to setting the best time in qualifying. He did eight laps, the best in a time of 1.30.369 at the wheel of the Lotus ART, good enough for his first pole of the season. Behind him came Giedo Van der Garde for the Barwa Addax Team, (1.30.473) and Sport International’s Sam Bird (1.30.488.) The GP2 boys will be back on track tomorrow for their first race, which starts at 15.40.
