GP2 – Bianchi eighth so back on pole

Montmelo (Barcelona) 21 May – Jules Bianchi was on track this afternoon for the first race of this weekend’s second round of the GP2 series, running alongside the fifth round of the Formula 1 World Championship. The Frenchman had netted pole position yesterday, but was given a ten place grid position penalty for failing to comply with yellow flag regulations early in the session. This meant the Lotus ART driver started from eleventh on the grid and he worked his way up to eighth at the flag, after dropping even further back at the start after a collision with Luiz Razia and Luca Filippi. Charles Pic won the race at the Catalunya circuit at the wheel of the Barwa Addax Team car, ahead of team-mate Giedo Van der Garde and Sport International’s Sam Bird. Bianchi, a student with Maranello’s Ferrari Driver Academy, who since last year is also on the books with the Scuderia’s Formula 1 team, will therefore start tomorrow’s race which starts at 10.35 from pole, as the top eight places on the grid are based on reversing the top eight places in Race 1.
