Car change for Flodin in Sardinia

Patrik Flodin will contest Rally d'Italia Sardegna in a MINI John Cooper Works, albeit in a Super 2000 version of the Prodrive-built car.

The Swede, a frontrunner in the Production Car World Rally Championship, had been due to drive the all-new John Cooper Works WRC on the island event.

However, a lack of sufficient spare parts forced a rethink for Flodin and the Italian Grifone team, which is running the 26-year-old on this week’s rally.

David Lapworth, Prodrive’s technical head, said: “We had to make a sensible decision whether to spread everything we’ve got over five cars or run four cars properly. His car will be the best specification possible without it being the World Rally Car kit.”

Flodin’s MINI is flanked in the blue and yellow colours of his national flag. He is due to start Friday’s opening stage 31st on the road.
