De la Rosa on standby for Perez

Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa is once again in line to replace Sergio Perez if the Sauber driver is not be 100 per cent fit to drive at the European Grand Prix.

McLaren tester and former Sauber driver De La Rosa was called up as a late replacement for Perez at the Canadian Grand Prix after the Mexican failed to fully recover from his massive shunt at the Monaco GP a few weeks earlier.

Perez is adamant that he will return to the cockpit of his Sauber C30 for the race in Valencia this weekend.

"I feel perfectly well and I'm very much looking forward to racing in Valencia," he said ahead of the race.

However, while Sauber remain hopeful he'll return, they have made contingency plans.

"We see no reason why Sergio should not drive," Sauber managing director Monisha Kaltenborn told Italy's Tuttosport.

"By the time of the European Grand Prix he will have recovered, but if he has not then we will make use again of Pedro, because of his vast experience."
