Q&A with Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg

Lately Mercedes boss Ross Brawn has asked for faith from Nico Rosberg - faith that the team will get their game together, enabling Rosberg to finally deliver his first Grand Prix victory. On Friday morning in Valencia it didn’t look as though that’s likely to happen this weekend. But as we saw in Montreal, a driver can be last and still win the race, so nowadays anything is possible in F1 - and that is why the fans love this season. Hopefully the young German will soon have reason to love it too...

Q: Nico, how would you sum up your day?

Nico Rosberg: Well, it was a bit of a mixed performance today. In the morning we lost a bit of time as we had the wrong the set-up. We were able to change that for the second session and it was paramount for us to use FP2 as much as we could. And indeed we made some good progress, even though I am not completely satisfied today and the comfy feeling was not there one hundred percent. My guess is that it will be a long night to get out all the glitches to have a good qualifying tomorrow.

Q: When you say that the feeling is not there one hundred percent, can you explain what the reason for that could be?

NR: No, I cannot put my finger on one thing and say this is the cause - it is a general feeling. The balance is not what I hoped it would be so my guys will work on the set-up this evening and I hope it will be different tomorrow morning in FP3 so that we can build on that and get a good qualifying.

Q: So what are your expectations for qualifying?

NR: Probably as always. Something between sixth and eighth place - and then try in the race to get ahead. Hopefully this time with a bit more luck!

Q: Last year you started from P12 and finished in P10 - is that the position that is realistic tomorrow?

NR: We are definitely aiming higher than that. Sixth, seventh or eighth should be within our reach.

Q: There have been a lot of discussions about the driving style of Lewis Hamilton lately. How do you see his actions in races?

NR: He has developed a more aggressive driving style lately - probably sometimes a bit too aggressive - but then he got punished, so I am sure he has learned from that.
