Karun Chandhok has admitted he has a lot to learn at this weekend's German Grand Prix as he prepares for his race debut with Lotus.

Chandhok last raced in Formula One at the 2010 British Grand Prix for HRT, but is faced with a new car, new tyres and the addition of the Drag Reduction System (DRS) at the Nurburgring this weekend. Chandhok has taken part in four Friday practice sessions this year but crashed on his outlap in Australia, suffered reliability issues at Valencia and faced miserable conditions in both Turkey and Britain.

"This weekend is not about heroics," he told ESPNF1. "I have never driven the car in a full race. I have never had a feel of the Pirelli dry tyres and the DRS. This is going to be a learning experience. I will be giving my best during the weekend."

Jarno Trulli, who is making way for Chandhok this weekend, will be back in his Lotus cockpit at the Hungarian Grand Prix and is expected to see out the rest of the season with the team. Asked if there was a chance he would get a race at his home grand prix in India, Chandhok said: "Racing in the German GP is a one-off chance. I am fully concentrated on doing well this weekend and not thinking too far ahead."

But asked what his target is for 2012, Chandhok said: "To have a full racing seat for next year. I would be happy if I get a chance to do so with Team Lotus."
