(CNN) -- World champion Sebastian Vettel has increased his advantage in the Formula One world drivers' standings to 80 points, after finishing second in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Fernando Alonso secured Ferrari's first victory of the season, but Vettel actually increased his lead at the top after second-placed Jenson Button was forced to retire.

Vettel is now on 204 points after nine races, in a season which has seen him win six races and finish second in the other three, with teammate Mark Webber up to second place overall.

Red Bull's dominance in the constructors' championship continues after their second and third positions at Silverstone, and they now have a commanding 110-point lead over nearest rivals McLaren.
