McLaren and Sauber fined by FIA
Monday 11th July 2011
McLaren and Sauber have been fined by the FIA after both were found guilty of unsafe pit-stop releases during Sunday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
McLaren were fined €5,000 (£4,433) after a problem with a wheel gun led to Jenson Button leaving his garage without his right-front wheel securely attached.
The wheel subsequently worked loose, although the Briton was able to park his car at the end of the pit lane and retire without the wheel becoming completely detached.
Sauber were fined €20,000 (£17,773) after the team released Kamui Kobayashi into the path of Williams' Pastor Maldonado.
Kobayashi was slapped with a 10-second stop-go penalty during the race and later retired with a mechanical problem.
