Di Resta delighted with sixth
Paul Di Resta feels the wet conditions worked in his favour as he finished sixth in British Grand Prix qualifying.
Rain towards the end of the session prevented later drivers bettering Di Resta's time.
"It's definitely worked," the 26-year-old told BBC Sport. "Worst case scenario would've been eighth.
"We did a very good lap. You've got to give credit to the team because they've come here with small upgrades and they've got that car working well."
Di Resta has now out-qualified Force India team-mate Adrian Sutil in seven out of nine races of the Scot's debut Formula 1 season.
"Adrian's pushed me on," Di Resta said. "He's very quick in qualifying.
"Over the test sessions we're probably the closest driver pairing at the moment, but I suppose it's just getting it hooked up.
"You can judge yourself on him and obviously I want to be competitive and beat him because he's my only judgement of where I am at the moment.
"This weekend's been tough. The unpredictable weather that's been going on here.
"Coming here to the British Grand Prix having never done a race on the grand prix track, it's always going to be difficult, but I've grown in confidence in the car over the limited dry running we've had and I think that was the progress.
"Anytime we have been on track this weekend, dry or wet, we've been competitive.
"Our target coming here was to get into queue three, we did that and we went out there in queue three and did a very good lap and that was the difference.
"We took the chance to run the tyres, luckily enough it's paid off, I did a very good lap and tomorrow a positive step would be some good points ahead of us."
Di Resta has picked up two points in his maiden F1 season with Force India and the Scot insists he is not looking too far ahead.
"You think about the future, but I think the positive thing to take is I'm committed to Force India," he added.
"We're only midway through the first season. They made a commitment to me and I'm trying to do the best job possible for them and develop on as a team.
"I think, at the end of the year, that's when you start to sit down and really think where opportunities come, but I'm very happy in this environment and I've been part of it now for two years, so hopefully good things will come from the future from this."
