Not many villages in the world can clam to feature a 24 kilometres-long racetrack… Well Nürburg can! Located in the district of Ahrweiler, Nurburg hosts the German Grand Prix alternating with Hockenheim since 2007.
The track and its multiple configurations had been called many things over the year, even nicknamed the “Green Hell” by Sir Jackie Stewart due to the amazingly challenging nature of the circuit.
Nurburg and its 165 habitants (sometimes 169… according to the very reliable Internet!) will want you to visit the town’s castle of the same name, built during the High Middle Ages and regarded as a characteristic feature of the Eifel.
If you travel to the Grand Prix this year, and have time to emerge yourself and try German food and hospitality, why not head to Bonn, located 45 minutes away from the track? It’s also the birthplace of composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
A German meal wouldn’t be complete without a great beer – and the choice is all yours here. For a light beer, ask for a ein Helles, for a stronger beverage, go for a Weiss. You could even ask for a Russe, a mix of Weiss and lemonade. Try it. It’s great.
Back to the track now, where the team will race for the first time as MERCEDES GP PETRONAS this year, as last year’s German Grand Prix weekend took place at Hockenheim.
Nico’s best result here was his 7th place during the 2006 edition of the Grand Prix, while Michael has won the race 5 times (2006, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1995).
With new updates this weekend on the car, the team hopes to (re)start the Silver Arrows history at the Nürburgring in good fashion!
