THE SHOWCAR VISITS GERMANY... AND RUSSIA!

on Jul 18, 2011

Weekends without races don't mean weekends off. Hell no. This past few days David Coulthard was in a Showcar in Germany while another Showcar took a spin around the 2012 Russian GP host city.

DC's run was at the DTM event in Munich’s Olympic Stadium. 54,000 people attended over two days which not only saw David parade the Running Showcar around the tight 1.192-kilometre circuit but also race a Mercedes AMG C-Class in the DTM premiere competition.

Hitting the right inside of the wall with one of his wheels resulted in an unfortunate premature exit for DC, although thankfully for our team, it wasn't the Showcar... in the DTM round he lost out to Edoardo Mortara in the quarter-finals. In spite of this, our Wings For Life ambassador still described the atmosphere of the event as “simply sensational”.

Meanwhile over in Russia, the Sochi Speed Festival was underway with crowds watching the Russian F1 Federation street run. Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Sébastien Buemi drove for Red Bull Racing, giving spectators a taste of what's to come in 2014 when the city hosts the first Russian Grand Prix.

Our former reserve driver Buemi said: “This city is a perfect place for the future grand prix: it is very sunny, located on the seaside, the nature is wonderful and the citizens are very hospitable. I am looking forward to 2014 when I come back here not just to have a drive around the city, but to fight for a title in the first grand prix of Russia.” Watch. This. Space.
