iWitness in Hungary: Sunday

Chef Jon Smee, whose left hand was squashed earlier in the week while helping to erect the motorhome, has found a friend in Rubens Barrichello’s physio Achim Hofstadter. Achim has been using laser treatment to stop Jon’s fingers from swelling up, and he’s had a lot of success. “It’s fantastic,” says Jon. “I’m still able to bend my fingers and work normally. Thank you Achim!”
More than 100 paddock regulars turned up to run the Hungaroring last night in an effort to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. F1 sponsor UBS donated €300 for each lap completed, as part of their ‘Run That Track’ initiative. Engineers, members of the media and marketing staff turned out, and our comms gurus Claire Williams and Sophie Eden were conspicuous by their absence… Where were the off-games chits, girls?
A lot of milestones were reached at the Hungaroring today. Race winner Jenson Button notched up his 200th grand prix start; Toro Rosso started its 100th grand prix (as did the Mercedes V8 engine) and for only the second time in those 100 races, both Toro Rossos finished in the points. Well done, Toro!
We were delighted to see Jenson Button arrive in the paddock this morning. Someone hacked into his personal website last night and wrote a dreadful story about him being involved in a car crash overnight. On reading the hoax, Jenson described the story as a “malicious news post” and will be reviewing the security of his ‘site. What motivates people to write stuff like that?
Happy Holidays from iWitness. We’ll see you again at Spa-Francorchamps!
