FDA – A podium for Marciello at Vallelunga

Maranello, 17 September – The first of two Italian Formula 3 Championship races was held today at Vallelunga and Raffaele Marciello made it to the second step of the podium in this the sixth round of the season, alongside winner Sergio Campana (BVM Target.)

Finding himself in the lead after a jumped start from the second place on the grid, Campana was told by his team to let the Ferrari Driver Academy man pass to avoid getting a penalty. Campana did indeed slow to let Marciello pass, but in such a way that he still was able to get the vital slipstream to pull off a successful passing move to retake the lead. Therefore, after the race Marciello’s Prema Powerteam protested the result, feeling that Campana won because of the advantage gained through his jumped start. At the time of writing, the Stewards decision has not yet been announced.

The other FDA student on the grid, Brandon Maisano had an equally exciting race on his way to sixth place, after several thrilling duels, including one with Victor Guerin (Lucidi Motorsport) who in the end had to settle for finishing behind the Frenchman. Marciello and Maisano will be back on track for the second of this weekend’s Italian Formula 3 races tomorrow at 10h10.
