SINGAPORE PREVIEW: GET READY FOR ANOTHER DOSE OF NIGHT FEVER

Sep 16, 2011

In just its fourth year, the Singapore Grand Prix is already a firm favourite on the F1 calendar.

The season's only night race, the Singapore spectacle is a sight for sore eyes - the illuminated backdrop of the city's skyline making this a truly beautiful race to just experience.

We're still waiting for a win here but, to date, we have scored points in Singapore every year. 2010 saw Seb finish second and Mark third, in 2009 Seb came fourth while David Coulthard came seventh in the 2008 race. That was a memorable race for the Scot as he chalked up the final points of his career, David opting to bow out of F1 following that season's finale in Brazil.

The spectacular inaugural event will also be remembered for the race-influencing crash invovling Nelson Piquet, the Brazilian driver putting his car into the wall to bring out the safety car which helped vault his team-mate up the order.

Run entirely on public roads, Marina Bay is pretty special to drive. Tight and twisty, like Monaco, it's important for drivers to hug the barriers, but not get too close...

A high downforce anti-clockwise circuit, there are no fewer than 23 corners demanding drivers' total concentration. A lap is 5.073km in length and the race is 61 laps, a distance of 309.316km.

Kimi Raikkonen's lap record of 1:45.599, set in 2008, is still the fastest to date. Fernando Alonso has two Singapore wins to his name, Lewis Hamilton one.

Set in the heart of the city, there's no shortage of diversions for spectators to fill their hours. For the most eclectic mix of restaurants and bars, head for the Dempsey Road enclave. And don't forget to try a Singapore Sling at Raffles.
