The giant ferris wheel known as the Singapore Flyer dominates the skyline over the Marina Bay circuit, but the fourteenth round of the F1 World Championship did not exactly get off to a flying start today.

The first practice session started late after the kerbs at a couple of corners were damaged by previous practice for the Porsche Supercup. It was a straightforward session in the Scuderia Toro Rosso garage, with Jaime Alguersuari setting the 12th fastest time, completing 17 laps, while Sébastien Buemi was 17th, running 16 laps in the reduced amount of track time available. Lewis Hamilton topped the time sheet for McLaren, ahead of the Red Bull Racing duo of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Fourth was last year’s Singapore winner, Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari, with Jenson Button behind him in the McLaren, while Felipe Massa rounded off the top six for Ferrari.
