VETTEL'S POST-RACE APPEARANCES IN JAPAN

by redbullracing.com, Oct 10, 2011

A victorious Sebastian Vettel followed last night’s post-race celebrations with appearances in Atsugi and Yokohama in Japan.

First stop saw him take in the Infiniti Global Technology Centre in Atsugi and attend an employee meeting there – a staff meeting like that, so soon after winning the Formula One Driver World Championship, will take some beating.

Next stop (by helicopter) was a trip to the Nissan/Infiniti Headquarters in Yokohama. There, Seb featured in a press conference with Christian Horner and Adrian Newey, hosted by our former driver David Coulthard.

When asked what set Seb apart from other racing drivers Adrian described Seb’s capacity for learning something new about the car every time he drives it as ‘like a little sponge’, suggesting that despite his incredible performances so far, the best could still be yet to come.

And when asked what makes Japanese fans so special, Sebastian explained that one big difference is how long they stay behind after races. Being so passionate about Formula One, even watching the mechanics pack up is a big part of the show for them. He reasoned it was this wider appreciation for all aspects of the sport which made them stand out from fans of other nations which in turn, makes him incredibly excited about returning here next year.

After that, the new world champion went out into the public gallery area of the headquarters, meeting and greeting fans and singing autographs. As usual the Japanese fans created an atmosphere that was nothing short of electric.
