The Buddh International Circuit was given a resounding thumbs-up by the drivers today. Rubens Barrichello described it as “great fun”, and his sentiments were shared up and down the pitlane. “The track is fantastic,” said Lewis Hamilton, while Nico Rosberg went even further. He jumped out of his car at the end of FP1, found designer Hermann Tilke and congratulated him. “This is the best track Hermann has ever built,” said Nico.

Thomson Reuters have replaced their usual branding on the nose of the FW33 with that of Plan International. The charity is building up to the birth of the world’s ‘Baby 7 billion’, forecast for 31 October, by highlighting the increasing gender gap between men and women in India. The country’s 2011 census revealed that the ratio of boys to girls has dropped to an all-time low and Plan wants to bring an end to gender selection.

Lots of drivers are paying tribute to fallen heroes Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli this weekend. Rubens Barrichello paid tribute to both men by placing two different stickers on his helmet; Mark Webber and Jenson Button wore tributes to Wheldon, whom they both knew, and Felipe Massa carried Simoncelli’s number 58 on his helmet. But the best tribute was undoubtedly Jarno Trulli’s; the Lotus star wore a replica Simoncelli helmet. Respect.

Many happy returns to Bernie Ecclestone, who turned 81 today. You’ve got to feel for his family because what present do you give a man who probably has everything? “Bernie is a legend,” said Frank Williams. “He’s done a lot for F1 and he’s always looked out for Williams. Happy birthday!”
