India's Q&A with Rubens

Posted on Friday 28 Oct 2011

Rubens Barrichello is loving his first experience of India, and he’s hopeful that his positive experiences of the country will extend onto the racetrack as well.

Rubens, give us your thoughts on the Buddh International Circuit.
They’ve done a good job with the track, I must say. There are several interesting corners and some undulations. I’m looking forward to driving it tomorrow.

What sort of preparations have you been able to do ahead of the race?
I have a simulator at home in Brazil, so I’ve probably done more than 100 laps of the track on that already. It’s a very good simulator programme, although the lap time I was able to set was about three seconds faster than the time Pastor [Maldonado] managed on the AT&T Williams simulator at Grove! We’ll have to wait and find out which is more accurate!

Do you think the FW33 will be competitive this weekend?
I hope it will be competitive. We’re continuing to push until the end of the year and we have some updates here, which we hope will have a positive effect on car performance.

What are your thoughts about F1 coming to India?
It feels like F1 is breaking new ground, and it’s a really good thing that F1 is expanding its boundaries. It means more travelling for all of us, but F1 is a global sport and it should be visiting places like India. It’s a good thing for the sport.

Finally, it’s been a difficult couple of weeks for motorsport in general. What is your attitude towards safety?
It’s at a very high level in F1, but we can always do more. The accidents in the past couple of weeks are reminders that motorsport is dangerous and we can always do more.
