Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado received their own pieces of good luck this morning when school children from Suzuka presented them with Brazilian and Venezuelan flags. They’d even written “Good Luck” in Portuguese and Spanish on the flags – and the spelling was correct!

Suzuka will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and to help the circuit with those celebrations, Rubens did a piece to camera for Suzuka TV this morning. He’s contested 17 Japanese Grands Prix at the circuit and he didn’t mince his words. “Suzuka is an unbelievable circuit,” he said. “It’s the best track in the world! I always look forward to racing here.” (How organised are Suzuka TV? – Ed)

Will the Japanese Grand Prix be known from hereon as the JS400? For this race is British journalist Joe Saward’s 400th grand prix. Well done from everyone at AT&T Williams for getting this far, Joe; here’s to the next 400 races!

Many congratulations to Sebastian Vettel, who became the youngest double world champion in history this afternoon. He’s also become our tyre supplier Pirelli’s first F1 World Champion since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1957. Seb’s post-race party was going on late into the evening; it’ll be interesting to see if he’s as pin-sharp at next weekend’s Korean Grand Prix!
