iWitness in Korea: Thursday

AT&T Williams has already won a race this weekend. Two members of our catering team – Jo Turley and Jon Smee – left Suzuka early in order to begin setting up the sea freight in Yeongam, and we were the only team to follow that strategy. As a result, we were ready before anyone else and we had the best of everything in the paddock!
While other teams and members of the media make do with the love motels of Mokpo, AT&T Williams is enjoying the delights of the Holiday Inn in Gwangju. Korea’s sixth-largest city is an hour’s drive from Yeongam, but the rooms are big and the hotel offers 25 percent off all drinks in the bar. (Sounds good, don’t tell anyone about this – Ed)
Happy birthday to Peter Sauber. Mokpo mightn’t be the venue of choice for him to celebrate his 68th birthday, but look on the bright side Peter: you’re a year younger than Frank Williams!
Not much has changed at Yeongam since last year’s inaugural race. The labels on the doors of our hospitality suite still carry stickers from 2010 (no, Nico Hulkenberg no longer drives for us) and there is grass growing in the grouting of the paddock’s paving. McLaren got the biggest shock, however, when they arrived to find the names of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel written on the floor of their pit garage! Now, where’s that bottle of grey paint?
