Drivers to sample experimental soft tyre in Abu Dhabi

Pirelli will supply the teams with two extra sets of dry-weather tyres to use during Friday’s practice sessions at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi event. The extra rubber will be an experimental version of the Italian manufacturer’s soft compound.

Additional prototype tyres will be available to use at next week’s young driver test at the Yas Marina circuit. The three-day session will take place from November 15-17.

“At this point in the season, our emphasis is obviously on refining our tyre choices for next year, which is why we are seeing some new tyres during free practice here and the young driver test,” explained Pirelli’s motorsport director Paul Hembery. "With very limited opportunities for testing during the season, this is important for us to collect information as we develop our strategy for 2012, which will feature tyres that are a bit different from this year’s range.”

Pirelli have nominated to bring their medium and soft compounds as the prime and option rubber respectively for Abu Dhabi.
