2009 Nissan Cube SL
Months in Fleet: Ten
Mileage to Date: 21,876 miles
If you've been following the monthly updates on our little blue Nissan, you know that we haven't shied away from using the Cube like we would any other utility vehicle and, save for a MG hardtop, its swallowed everything we've tried to cram through its side-opening rear hatch. This is largely due to the Cube's tall roof/low floor design but for a couple staffers it was the ingenious and useful sunken rear cargo hold that proved ideal.
Deputy editor, Joe DeMatio, had this to say: "I found the deep rear cargo area to be perfect for carting around several bins and coolers and boxes of prepared foods, making the Cube a nice little catering cart. The recessed well in the cargo area means that everything stays in place and is down low so I was able to haul a large stock pot with butternut squash soup and not worry about it flying around."
Senior Web editor, Phil Floraday had similar comments after a trip to the grocery store: "The Cube's little cargo area behind the rear seat is perfect for a week's worth of groceries. I didn't need to worry about the eggs being crushed if the bags shifted during a turn because they were safely contained in the recessed hold. And, there was plenty of room for everything I bought, plus maybe another bag or two."
