All-new Diavel gets muscle to rival Yamaha's popular power-cruiser

Ducati unveiled its sixth model in Milan, Italy, this month in the guise of the Diavel to take on the Yamaha's long-ruling V-Max power-cruiser.

Massive 240/45 rear tyre.

Arriving as 2011 model, the macho-looking Diavel will follow the Superbike, Streetfighter, Monster, Multistrada and Hypermotard to showrooms at prices in excess of B1m.

The Diavel uses the 1.2-litre V Twin engine of the 1198 Superbike but has a narrower cylinder angle of 11deg compared to 41deg. Power and torque outputs are rated at 162hp and 128Nm respectively. There's a ride-by-wire throttle system for optimum power delivery.

Playing the game with the V-Max and its likes are 17-inch wheels rimmed by 120/70 section bit at the front and 240/45 one at the rear. In order to accommodate the fat rear rubber, the six-speed transmission has a 16mm longer gearbox output shaft.

Diavel gets Trellis body.

The Diavel uses the traditional Ducati Trellis die-cast aluminium body frame to help yield an overall dry weight of 207kg. Together with this, Ducati promises that handling won't be compromised to just driving in a straight line.

The brakes developed by Brembo feature 320mm twin rotors up front and 265mm single rotor behind. Anti-lock brakes are standard.

Apart from the Diavel, there will also be Diavel Carbon version featuring lighter wheels and special colours on the body and fork sliders commanding a 15% premium in price.
