Brazilian GP - Alonso third and Massa fifth amid the unexpected in Interlagos free practice
Interlagos, 5 November – The second session of free practice has just finished at Interlagos in preparation for the Brazilian Grand Prix. This penultimate round of the F1 world championship will take place on Sunday at the Sao Paulo circuit. Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari finished third in a session dominated by the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel (1.11.968) and Mark Webber (1.12.072). After a planned engine change at the end of the first practice session, the Spanish Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver’s time of 1.12.328 was third quickest as he tried out both tyre compounds and different fuel levels. The session finished early for teammate Felipe Massa, who was forced to retire 25 minutes before the end. This was because of a clutch issue that has not yet been identified and is being examined by the engineers. Despite the unforeseen problem the Brazilian driver still took fifth place on the time sheets with 1.12.677 after 19 laps.
There is still one more hour of practice available to Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro tomorrow morning at 11am local time in preparation for the decisive hour of qualifying in the afternoon.
