Sir Frank Williams has given his backing for Qatar to be the third country in the Middle East to host a Formula One Grand Prix.
Bahrain and Abu Dhabi already host the season's first and last races but Williams, who is to build a technology centre in the country, said there is room for one more.
"I would love to see a race in Qatar because of our involvement here," Williams told the Gulf Times. "In my humble opinion, the Losail circuit is admirably suited for an F1 race."
The Losail venue currently hosts MotoGP's season-opener but both Williams and team driver Rubens Barrichello are of the opinion that it could easily be adapted.
"I have driven here for filming in the past and found the track to be very favourable. Quite honestly, we could have a race over here," said Barrichello.
The addition of the Indian Grand Prix to the 2011 calendar boosts the season to 20 races and with a Russian and US GP also in the pipeline, the calendar is set to expand further. Despite his preference to see a Qatar GP, Williams does not think there is room for many more races.
"I would love to see more races, but I don't think we could ever have more than 22 without compromising the preparations and driver safety," said Williams.
