HRT’s test and reserve driver Christian Klien is to race in Brazil this weekend in place of team mate Sakon Yamamoto.

Klien, who will partner Bruno Senna, raced for the team at September’s Singapore Grand Prix, when Yamamoto was struck down with illness. He retired on Lap 32 of the Marina Bay race with hydraulic issues. He has also taken part in a couple of Friday practice sessions this year.

“I am very happy to get a second opportunity to do another Grand Prix here after Singapore and I hope that we are doing a good weekend with positive results,” said the 27 year-old Austrian. “I am excited to come to Brazil where I already raced two times, the last time in 2005, and where I could achieve good results.

“The circuit is quite challenging and we are racing anti-clockwise which is going to be tough for the neck. There are many slow corners and the long straight at the start-finish-line where high speeds are possible.”

Klien completed his maiden season of Formula One competition with Jaguar Racing in 2004, aged just 21, after which he joined Red Bull Racing for two seasons in 2005-2006. He tested for Honda in 2007 and for BMW Sauber from 2008-2009. He has participated in 47 Grands Prix and enjoyed his best finish - fifth - at the 2005 Chinese race.
