Heikki Kovalainen has been told by doctors to rest up in bed for a few days after he suffered concussion in the Race of Champions event over the weekend.
Kovalainen clipped a wall and crashed heavily at the start of the evening after the throttle on his Audi R8 jammed open, knocking him unconscious.
"Been put to bedrest at home as a precaution, heavy concussion, further tests next few days as head took a big hit," Kovalainen wrote on Twitter.
His British girlfriend Catherine Hyde was seated alongside the Lotus driver and was also injured in the crash, confirming a hairline fracture of her pelvis and hip, and damaged leg muscles.
"Catherine is sore and her back is painful, got to look after her now," added Kovalainen. "Both of us (are) on bed rest for a while."
