Qantas renews Australian Grand Prix Sponsorship

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is pleased to announce the continued relationship with Qantas as the naming right partner for the 2011 Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix.

The sponsorship again aligns Qantas, one of Australia’s strongest and most recognised brands with one of Australia’s premier international sporting events.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chairman, Mr Ronald J Walker, AC CBE said he was again delighted to be working with Qantas as the title sponsor. “We look forward to building on the success of the 2010 Albert Park race that attracted more than 40 million television viewers from 187countries.”

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said the airline had supported the Australian Grand Prix since it arrived in Australia in 1985.

“We are proud to renew our naming rights sponsorship of the 2011 Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix,” said Mr Joyce.

“Qantas has been associated with the Australian Grand Prix for 25 years and we are especially looking forward to next year’s event with Qantas as the Premier Partner.

“As a committed supporter of Australian sport, we are delighted to be continuing our active involvement in one of the highlights of the national major events calendar.”

Formula One is the world’s most popular sporting series, generating 520 million television viewers annually. 4.6 million Australians watched the 2010 Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix coverage, the highest Formula One figures since 2005.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding has welcomed the new sponsorship agreement between QANTAS and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

“QANTAS has been fantastic supporters of this event since it came to Melbourne in 1996. As an Australian icon, celebrating its 90th birthday, QANTAS’ support of the Grand Prix will help ensure that the 2011 event is a great success,” Mr Holding said.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation acting Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Westacott said, “Qantas is a truly global brand, the airlines exceptional international flight paths place Melbourne and the Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix on an international stage, reaching new international tourism markets.

“The continued partnership with Qantas is testament to the high quality international sporting event delivered at Albert Park.”

The 2011 Formula™ 1 Qantas Australian Grand Prix will be held at Melbourne’s spectacular Albert Park from 24-27 March 2011 with a host of new and exciting on and off track activities.
