Formula One fever could reach a new high in Russia if Mikhail Aleshin joins Vitaly Petrov on the grid for 2011.
The country is set to host a grand prix in the near future with president Vladimir Putin instrumental in promoting the sport in Russia.
Having recently tested Renault's R30 in Abu Dhabi, the new Renault World Series champion hinted that talks are in advanced stages for him to be the second Russian driver in 2011 with Force India, Lotus and Virgin the suspected suitors.
"We are considering options and there are some very interesting proposals," Aleshin told gzt.ru. "I'm not allowed to talk about it, so I'll try for it to be a surprise. In fact, the issue of my participation is resolved. But it is not guaranteed, because there are no guarantees in formula one."
Among Aleshin's sponsors are state-owned Gazprom and Cordiant tyres and it is thought that he needs €10-15 million in sponsorship to secure a seat with a small team.
