Bank of America and Citigroup are evaluating whether to allow their employees to use Apple's iPhone as an alternative to Research In Motion's BlackBerry for corporate email, Bloomberg said, citing three people familiar with the plan.
The banks are already testing software that is designed to make iPhone secure enough for company messages, the agency said, citing people familiar with the plan.
Apple and Bank of America spokespersons declined to comment to the agency.
A Citigroup spokeswoman told Bloomberg that the bank does not comment on supplier relationships.
Jeff McDowell, a Research in Motion senior vice president, told Bloomberg in an email that the number of its corporate subscribers continues to grow and the company continues to lead the market.
None of the companies could immediately be reached for comment by Reuters outside regular U.S. business hours.
