FIA Prize Gala moving to India in 2011

The FIA's Prize Gala ceremony which sees the governing body hand out several awards to drivers, teams and organisers will move to New Delhi in 2011.

This years ceremony, held in Monaco as usual, saw Sebastian Vettel officially crowned the 2010 F1 World Champion. However, next years champion will receive his crown in India as the country aims to put itself on the motorsport map.

The country will also host the inaugural Indian GP next year as well as an FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, which KD Madan, President of the Federation of Motor Sport Clubs of India, believes is proof that the second most populous country is taking the sport seriously.

"This is a defining moment for Indian motorsport," he told The Times of India. "First the Indian GP and now the awards taking place in India. It is a clear indication that India is now well and truly on the world map even in the motorsport world.

"We could not have imagined this couple of years ago but the FMSCI has been working really hard to make motorsports one of the top sports in the country. To be the first country in Asia to host the FIA Annual awards speaks volumes of how Indian motorsport is seen by global audiences.

"Next year is going to be a proud year for Indian motorsports and we will need all the support we can get from the rest of the nation to make it a success."
