No place for Schumi in top 50 list
There was no place for seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher in Autosport magazine's Top 50 drivers for 2010 as "he wasn't very good".
The leading British magazine's annual top 50 list includes drivers from all major international categories and is based on their results, experience, quality of their equipment and the level of opposition.
Formula One's youngest ever World Champ Sebastian Vettel tops the list with Lewis Hamilton, who finished fourth in the standings, in second place. Jimmie Johnson from NASCAR is third while Fernando Alonso, recently voted the best driver of 2010 by the 12 team bosses during a poll conducted by the same magazine, is third. Schumacher's Mercedes GP team-mate Nico Rosberg claimed 12th place.
Editor Andrew van de Burgt insists Schumacher didn't have one "exceptional" race during his comeback season.
"He didn't make a single visit to the podium and didn't really do any of the stuff we expected from him," Van De Burgt said.
"Coupled with that, his comeback was easily the most hyped and eagerly anticipated I can remember. The expectations were so great and the results so disappointing.
"If there had been just one race where you thought Schumacher was exceptional that may well have been enough to get him into the top 50. But I can't think of that one performance."
He added: "Rosberg more than had the measure of Schumacher. And what we have seen in the past suggests Rosberg is a very good driver but maybe not a great one.
"So to be so comprehensively beaten by him didn't really show Schumacher in a great light."
While Schumacher was snubbed, his compatriot Timo Glock occupies position No 35 despite finishing pointless in his debut season with Virgin.
"Glock drives for a team that didn't have much in the way of resources but got some pretty decent performances out of that car in a way you didn't see Schumacher doing," Van de Burgt said.
