iPad, Android top Twitter tech topics for 2010

By Stephanie Goldberg, Special to CNN

The Apple iPad ranked No. 6 on the list of overall top trends on Twitter for 2010.

(CNN) -- What do the Gulf oil spill, the FIFA World Cup and Christopher Nolan's "Inception" all have in common?

They're three of the most popular trends on Twitter for 2010, according to the social networking site's "Year in Review," released on Monday.

Also among the year's top 10 Twitter topics are the Haiti earthquake, "Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows," pop star Justin Bieber (surprise, surprise) and two other World Cup-related trends: the buzzing (some might say annoying) vuvuzela horn and Pulpo Paul, the late octopus who correctly predicted soccer matches by choosing boxes marked with the winning team's flag.

Twitter's list of top 2010 topics has some overlap with Google's "most searched" terms of the year, released last week, although video-chat site Chatroulette, Google's fastest-rising search term, didn't crack the Twitter top 10.

Apple's iPad and Google Android nabbed the sixth and seventh spots on Twitter's list of overall top trends. The popular tablet, which went on sale in April, and Google's fast-growing operating system also topped the list of most popular trends in technology.

The top of that tech list is dominated by Apple and rounded out by smartphones, tablets, video games, software, browsers, search tools and more:

1. Apple iPad
2. Google Android
3. Apple iOS
4. Apple iPhone
5. "Call of Duty: Black Ops"
6. New Twitter
7. HTC
8. RockMelt
9. MacBook Air
10. Google Instant

Are you surprised by any of the top trends in technology or elsewhere? What were you buzzing about in 2010 that didn't make the cut?
